Meet a Utah Therapist: Bryce Goodwin

Meet a Utah Therapist: Bryce Goodwin, MFTI

Today you will meet a Utah therapist; Bryce Goodwin, MFTI, who practices at our South Jordan location or anywhere in the state of Utah through Telehealth. Then, you will learn how to contact our office and schedule your first appointment.

We know that finding the best therapist for you and your family’s needs can be a challenge. But, it doesn’t have to be. The Center for Couples and Families has three Utah locations. And our qualified clinicians are ready to help. When it comes to therapy, we have the right fit for you and your family.

About BryceUtah Therapist: Bryce Goodwin

Bryce grew up in Portland, OR, and has previously lived in Washington, DC and Palo Alto, CA. He grew up as the middle child of a large bicultural family (he has Asian genes, so he’s older than he looks). In addition to time with family, Bryce enjoys movies, board games, exercising  the stock market, and just taking time to think about life.

Education and Experience

Bryce received a Master’s in Public Policy from The George Washington University, and a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology from Brigham Young University. He is currently pursuing a Master’s of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy at Capella University, probably his favorite degree yet.

Before embracing a career as a Marriage and Family Therapist, Bryce worked in a variety of financial and data-oriented roles in the government, private, and nonprofit sectors. However, he has always had a love for working with people and with ideas. After much soul-searching – including working on challenges in his own close relationships – he concluded that the mental health world is where his strengths and interests will make the most positive impact. Bryce has additional experience in Applied Behavioral Analysis for developmental disorders, working in an adolescent residential treatment center, teaching and tutoring students, and coaching for professional and relational goals.

Therapeutic Philosophy and Approach

Above all, Bryce wants to help produce meaningful results for his clients! Bryce is both an optimist and a realist, compassionate and solution-focused, warm as well as incisive (Related Article: What Is Emotional Safety In A Relationship?). He sees close relationships as major sources of both life’s greatest challenges and its greatest joys. Bryce seeks to provide each and every person the safety and opportunity to express themselves and to be understood, and then to partner with the clients to clarify and together pursue their specific goals.

Bryce favors a strengths-based approach that curiously explores key relationships and patterns, and then harnesses the existing resources of the client system to discuss, process, and adapt. His approach is based on Multigenerational Family Therapy, and incorporates elements of Emotion-Focused, Solution-Focused, and Narrative Therapies (Related Article: About Marriage and Family Therapists). Bryce strongly believes in a holistic approach to healing: devoting attention to the most acute symptoms related to circumstances such as depression, anxiety, or trauma, and also attending to the significant relational roles, processes, and sociocultural contexts which may underlie those challenges.
